Since its inception, millions of EU citizens have taken benefit from the free movement rules which allow them to move to, live in, and in certain circumstances access the welfare system of the EU country which they have moved to. However, with the advent of Brexit, things are going to change drastically. The Prime Minister has categorically stated that unlimited migration will be stopped after the UK leaves the EU on March 29, 2019. The concept of free movement of people is one of the founding principles of European Union, which gives a right to move freely throughout all EU member states. Nevertheless, after Brexit, the UK will no longer treat EU citizens on preferential terms to enter the country. A White Paper is expected to be released later this year which will set out detailed plans on how this will be implemented as well as a time frame.
